THE LEGEND
Krali Marko used to live on the peak of Uymrkchal. His throne was above the Uymrk rocks, on the small Uymrk peak. Krali Marko had corn fields on the plateaus of Uymrkchal and Duschal (the flat peak) tells another legend. He used to plough them and sow grains there. He reaped the ripe corn, tied it into huge sheaves and piled them on the Malkyat Krustets and Golemyat Krustets (stack of sheaves) to dry. He would store the dried sheaves on the Golemya and Malkya Kupen. He threshed his corn on Markovi Harmani (threshing-floor of Krali Marko) in the foothill of the peak of Ambaritsa, where he piled the threshed corn. The sheaves, the corn, the threshing-floor – everything petrified and thus the peaks in the central section of the mountain appeared. There is also a legend telling that Krali Marko piled the sheaves when the Turks invaded the Bulgarian lands and reaped the stolen fields. Than the hero got down the mountain, defeated the Turks, grabbed the sheaves and piled them on the mountain – that is how the peaks appeared. |
